Bane of the Dark Lord’s servants

Much like the sources of gold and mithril, the cities of the dwarves are far-flung. In order to protect their trade routes connecting those, the dwarven cities maintain regiments of dwarven rangers. These units are often supported by the grim and fierce veterans of the Iron Guard who are famously known for fearless fighting even if vastly outnumbered. Using their fine throwing axes and swords forged deep under the mountains they slay their foes and gain a reputation of invincibility. In order to add “some punch” to my dwarven army I recently completed some of my very first Iron Guards. I admittedly have high hopes for them on the battle field and I expect their number to increase ...

Word Bearers Cataphractii Terminators

Following up the Veterans, I also painted a squad of five Cataphractii Terminators for my Word Bearers. Also these guys are from the Betrayal at Calth box and serve only one purpose: Support the other guys, maybe deep strike behind enemy lines and then mess them up with their Power Fists. Regrettably shortly after I started working on them, FW started releasing the pauldrons for Cataphractii armour… but so far no Word Bearer pauldrons are in sight. Here they are, five terminators of the Serrated Sun. C ...

Heavy fire support on tracks

I finished my rapier weapon platform recently. As I only have short ranged stuff like flamers in my Salamanders team I went for this one because I am obviously in need of more ranged fire power. For my full team there are still 3 Terminators and 3 heroes left to go. ...

Word Bearers Veteran Squad 2/2

And the squad is complete. Ten Veteran Word Bearers of the Serrated Sun are ready for action. There is not too much to say other than I already said in the previous post concerning these guys. So here they are and completing the squad: five more Veterans.   ...

Call from the Silver Tower

As Warhammer Quest has been an important part of this Blog from its very beginning, it comes as no surprise that the recently released new box game by Games Workshop would have an impact on my hobby in one way or another. I am still no fan of the C3POs on steroids and the likes but I really see no point in hating on the whole Age of Sigmar thing. There are hobbyists who enjoy it pretty much so it’s cool and great for them. As a matter of fact I think every now and then you can find cool stuff among the recent Warhammer releases. What bothers me most is that much of the new stuff is ...

Word Bearers Veteran Squad 1/2

Fresh from the Betrayal at Calth box, I finished a few bad guys. Painting up the veterans upgraded with Forge World bits was a pleasure already for the White Scars Veterans for my game against Goatmörser’s Sons of Horus. These guys here are another addition to my growing Word Bearers force. For these Word Bearers Veterans I decided to go for silver helmets after discussing the matter with Goatmörser. The thing with these upgrade sets is that they of course look fantastic for every legion. But: there is no hint if these sets are intended for veterans only or also for rank and file marines. To make it more confusing it gets completely mysterious, when we concern the Thousand Son Achean ...

Cthonian Colossus

The most recent addition for my Sons of Horus is my very own version of Captain Steloc Aethon of the Betrayal at Calth board game. As he will be on the loyalist side when I am playing Betrayal at Calth / Isstvan III I imagine him to be one of the very last comrades of Garviel Loken. He shall henceforth be known as Centurion Xalus Seraddon, one of the last Luna Wolves. Although I might very well use him in regular games as a traitor on the Warmaster’s side. ...

Word Bearers Legion Vindicator #1

And here he comes: my beloved Legion Vindicator. It’s the first of two models I purchased and quite honestly, I love this vehicle. A lot. One reason of course it the model itself: somehow the Legion Vindicator looks much more brutal than the GW equivalent. The other reason is the Paint scheme FW came up with in the Horus Heresy books: large areas of black combined with these astrological patterns and the royal Word Bearers decal sheet. ...

…and my axe!

Even if almost 30 years have passed by since I first read Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Gimli has been my favourite companion of the Fellowship ever since. A rough but faithful comrade who knows how to wield his axe. As my main priority during the last years were special scenarios I never had Gimli’s miniature in mind at all. But now that I am about to visit my first tournament I had to admit that my collection was missing out on heroes. So there were Daín and Gimli on the short-list. But it was Gimli who received a paint job first. I really like the final result and I tried to stay as close to the ...
