Sevatar – The Prince of Crows

“Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to thier ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the ‘noble savage’. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we’d overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and ...

A Crooked Moon

As I’ve said in my last post, I’m busy with painting three warbands for Warhammer skirmish right now. The Bretonnians, the Khorne Barbarians and now a bunch of Night Goblins. Fortunately I already got plenty of Night Goblin stuff from my Warhammer Quest project so that painting a 100 points warband is not a big hassle at all. Here comes the list I came up with: 15x Night Goblins 6x short bows 1x Boss 2x Night Goblin Squig Hoppers 1x Night Goblin Herder 2x Cave Squig 98 points in total The first exclusive miniature I painted was this neat sculpt from Forge World, the standard bearer. The banner is probably too massive for a warband but I ...

Thanatar Siege Automata of Cyclotrathe

Another repaint although the “repainting”on this one was rather subtle. I added the red stripe markings and (of course) some decals, that you can find a better description of here. The Thanatar Siege Automata was indeed one of my very first Mechanicum models and I must admit I like the brutish simplicity this giant is radiating. Have fun, here it is:         function getWR360License(){return 'http://aleatorblog.de/wp-content/plugins/webrotate-360-product-viewer/license.lic';}function getWR360PopupSkin(){return 'dark_square';}function getWR360GraphicsPath(){return 'http://aleatorblog.de/wp-content/plugins/webrotate-360-product-viewer/imagerotator/html/img/thin';}...

Custom Decals and Vorax Battle Automata (repaint)

Some of the readers might remember this little fellow here. I painted the automata earlier this year and initially I was quite happy about the work, but then I stumbled upon the artworks of the Cyclotrathe Thallax and Castellax over and over again and decided: something has to be done about the outrageous lack of decals for the Forge World of Cyclotrathe. No sooner said than done I started Illustrator and painting. This process took me with several long breaks more than half a year but I am pleased with the results. I had the decals printed in UV print at Druckeronkel’s web shop (big props to him!) and I am more than pleased with the results. Here is a ...

A blood-red trail

Help! I can’t stop starting new Warbands for Warhammer Skirmish. The test match really inspired me so that I am right now working on three new teams simultaneously. I got my hands on some of the Khorne models from the Age of Sigmar starter set and couldn’t help but fall in love with them. The old chaos barbarians are still quite cool but if you aim for Khorne there is no way around these dudes. Well in fact the miniature that got me started was the Khorne Warrior that came with the new White Dwarf but this is a story for yet another post. Here is the list I came up with. Notice the number of ...

Rhunarkh Bohn, Chaplain of the Word Bearers Legion

Rhunarkh Bohn is one of the most ardent Chaplains of the Word Bearers. Despite his terran origin he adopted the Cholchosian beliefs quickly and was amongst the first to embrace the dark gods. Long before the events of Istvaan, Rhunarkh Bohn served amongst the inner circle of the Word Bearers command. And the second miniature from the “Dark Vengeance Box” I painted for my Word Bearers. A few small conversion have been made, in order to fit the minitaure into the Heresy times setting: the backpack was replaced with a FW MkIII pack, I scraped off the horns from the helmet and I replaced his left shoulder pad with an Ashen Circle. I imagine the book on his should to ...

Daal Benoth – Praetor of the Word Bearers Legion

Daal Benoth served as a close advisor to Erebus and was one of the very first Word Bearers to learn about the secrets of Chaos. Over the decades of secret worshipping Daal Benoth fully embraced the gifts given to him by the dark gods. And here he is: another character for my Word Bearers Force: the obligatory Paragon Blade Praetor. Wielding a deamonic blade and wearing ornate chaotic Artificer Armour, His pistol is a Heresy style bolt pistol which I replaced in a great effort of conversion work.   function getWR360License(){return 'http://aleatorblog.de/wp-content/plugins/webrotate-360-product-viewer/license.lic';}function getWR360PopupSkin(){return 'dark_square';}function getWR360GraphicsPath(){return 'http://aleatorblog.de/wp-content/plugins/webrotate-360-product-viewer/imagerotator/html/img/thin';}...

Border Princes Skirmish

If you’ve followed the last couple of posts regarding Warhammer you might have noticed that some of the Aleatores are diving into the world of Warhammer skirmish recently. It’s a homebrewed setting mostly consisting of Mordheim, Regiments of Renown, Heralds of Ruin and Kill Team rules. Our member Elrond is responsible for this very entertaining mix which we playtested now for the first time. As this playtest resulted in quite a few changes to our rule setting I am not going to explain the rules we used in detail (if you have any questions feel free to ask anyway). So what we have here now is more likely a visual teaser for the future matches to come. The ...

The Spore-Cave

At that time the champions came upon a strange cave, lit from within by grotesque fungi that threw out a flickering emerald glare. Bestial shadows twisted and capered around the grotto’s walls, dark silhouettes of the vile monsters that stamped and chanted at the cavern’s heart. As the champions entered that glowing cave the toadstools gave a horrid shudder and began to utter muffled screams, spewing out clouds of drifting spores that soon filled the air with foulness. So warned, the beast cult that shrieked and cavorted within the cavern took up their blades, while their towering leader clutched at the ensorcelled amulet fragment that hung about his neck. The beasts’ screeches of devotion became sounds of anger ...

Adeptus Administratum

Here we go again featuring another member of the great Colony 87 Kickstarter range. This time it is the “Advisor”, almost my favourite of the whole range. That’s how I’ve always pictured a high-ranking member of the Adeptus Administratum. Therefore I tuned his staff with two Forge World Aquilae. Not sure how I’ll use him on the battlefield yet. A special Kill Team mission would be appropriate I think. function getWR360License(){return 'http://aleatorblog.de/wp-content/plugins/webrotate-360-product-viewer/license.lic';}function getWR360PopupSkin(){return 'dark_square';}function getWR360GraphicsPath(){return 'http://aleatorblog.de/wp-content/plugins/webrotate-360-product-viewer/imagerotator/html/img/thin';}...
