Thanatar Siege Automata of Cyclotrathe

Another repaint although the “repainting”on this one was rather subtle. I added the red stripe markings and (of course) some decals, that you can find a better description of here. The Thanatar Siege Automata was indeed one of my very first Mechanicum models and I must admit I like the brutish simplicity this giant is radiating. Have fun, here it is:         ...

Custom Decals and Vorax Battle Automata (repaint)

Some of the readers might remember this little fellow here. I painted the automata earlier this year and initially I was quite happy about the work, but then I stumbled upon the artworks of the Cyclotrathe Thallax and Castellax over and over again and decided: something has to be done about the outrageous lack of decals for the Forge World of Cyclotrathe. No sooner said than done I started Illustrator and painting. This process took me with several long breaks more than half a year but I am pleased with the results. I had the decals printed in UV print at Druckeronkel’s web shop (big props to him!) and I am more than pleased with the results. Here is a ...

Rhunarkh Bohn, Chaplain of the Word Bearers Legion

Rhunarkh Bohn is one of the most ardent Chaplains of the Word Bearers. Despite his terran origin he adopted the Cholchosian beliefs quickly and was amongst the first to embrace the dark gods. Long before the events of Istvaan, Rhunarkh Bohn served amongst the inner circle of the Word Bearers command. And the second miniature from the “Dark Vengeance Box” I painted for my Word Bearers. A few small conversion have been made, in order to fit the minitaure into the Heresy times setting: the backpack was replaced with a FW MkIII pack, I scraped off the horns from the helmet and I replaced his left shoulder pad with an Ashen Circle. I imagine the book on his should to ...

Daal Benoth – Praetor of the Word Bearers Legion

Daal Benoth served as a close advisor to Erebus and was one of the very first Word Bearers to learn about the secrets of Chaos. Over the decades of secret worshipping Daal Benoth fully embraced the gifts given to him by the dark gods. And here he is: another character for my Word Bearers Force: the obligatory Paragon Blade Praetor. Wielding a deamonic blade and wearing ornate chaotic Artificer Armour, His pistol is a Heresy style bolt pistol which I replaced in a great effort of conversion work.   ...

Zuurgath Raal, Lord Navigator in service of the Word Bearers

Lord Navigator Zuurgath Raal has been navigating the ships of the Word Bearers Legion ever since the first fleet of transporting the sons of Lorgar left Terra. From then on Zuurgath Raal climbed up in the hierarchy of his Navigator House becoming a Lord Navigator. Being close with the leadership and the officers around Lorgar himself, Zuurgath was amongst the very first mortals to embrace the dark goods. This model has been lying around for years now and I finally managed to paint him. Not much to tell, honestly, except for the red of his robe. I went for a slightly different red to distinguish him from the rest of the Legion. Thus I chose a deep crimson with ...

Eldar Warp Spider (alternative model)

Today I have something really exciting to show: alternative models for Eldar Warp Spiders by Ghost Miniatures from Russia. Frankly, I have been dreaming about a remake of this aspect shrine not only for years, but decades. Literally the old models by GW were some of the first Warhammer 40k I ever got, back in second edition. Somewhere (I actually don’t really recall where) I stumbled upon some painted Warp Spiders that looked amazing. First thing I thought was of course: Wow, thats a nice scratch build! Then I googled a bit and found the manufacturer Ghost Miniature, about whom I cannot really tell anything, since the whole website is in Russian. But like always: the ...

Word Bearers Assault Marines (Squad 1) 2/3

After quite some Heavy Metal in form of tanks and a flyer, I managed to paint up some more Assault Marines for my Word Bearers. With these new guys my first squad ist ready for action. So far I didn’t integrate any “swappable” options for weapons and the likes, but it will be in the next update. As you can guess from the title, I aim for two squads with 15 marines each (that’s why it’s “squad 1, 2/3” i.e. two third of my squad is done. So the next update will be magnets galore and the next squad will be a different chapter of the Word Bearers Legion.   ...

Even in Death, I serve… (as a Dreadnought)

Some more fire power has been added to my collection: a Contemptor Dreadnought with twin Kheres Assault Cannons. With this model I now have three out of five models available for my Word Bearers (only missing out on the “normal Boxnought” and the Deredeo class). For the new class introduced in Book VI there is no model yet, so I’d neglect it in my musings. In direkt comparison the Leviathan, the Mhara Gal and the regular Contemptor. I still remember when the Contemptor first came out everybody was amazed by the size of the model. Nowadays the Contemptor is by far the smallest “Heresy-Type” Dreadnought in the Legion Arsenal. ...

Radiating Beauty – Word Bearers Destroyers

Everybody needs a break sometimes and so did I. Having painted almost exclusively red for a few weeks now, I needed something else. But then again, I didn’t want to break the combo of my Word Bearers. So I painted some Destroyers for my Word Bearers collection. Nice models (that’s pretty obvious) and their dark reputation fits the use in a Word Bearers force. I imagine the Destroyers going in first and breaking resistance with their rad-weaponry closely followed by a second wave of the Ashen Circle burning everything down thats left over. What has been a bit tricky is the fact that Destroyer Marines normally are depicted in black, but I couldn’t find “proof” in the background that they are black indeed. ...
