Growth of a Treeman

As a start of a Wood Elves Blood Bowl Team I decided to scratch build a Treeman as the whole team ought to be ready quick and not pricey. Therefore I didn’t search for a miniature online and waited for its arrival. I started with a frame made of left overs from plastic sprues. To get that rough bark look I went for a cheap putty instead of green stuff. Just for the later steps such as roots, a mushroom and the face some green stuff was used. After the paint job the “branches” got some turf to get some green on the tree. All in all the miniature’s cost is below two Euros, not counting the paint. ...

A Hero’s Ascension

To’Reen is an experienced Techmarine of the Salamanders Legion. The scars on his armour tell a tale of his grim battles during the Isstvan Dropsite Massacre. After his retreat he took the lead over a small group of survivors of his Legion. The Techmarine To’Reen is one of three heroes of my “Victory is Vengeance – force”. The model was constructed by huge amounts of bits and lots of plastic- and greenstuff to create a special miniature which took me quite some time to complete. After that I spend another couple of hours on the paintjob, focusing on the details such as battle damage, leaking oil and oxidation effects. ...

Call from the Silver Tower

As Warhammer Quest has been an important part of this Blog from its very beginning, it comes as no surprise that the recently released new box game by Games Workshop would have an impact on my hobby in one way or another. I am still no fan of the C3POs on steroids and the likes but I really see no point in hating on the whole Age of Sigmar thing. There are hobbyists who enjoy it pretty much so it’s cool and great for them. As a matter of fact I think every now and then you can find cool stuff among the recent Warhammer releases. What bothers me most is that much of the new stuff is ...

Dark Martyr & Word Bearers Kill Team

With the build of a Dark Martyr my Gal Vorbak squad of 7 is completed. The whole miniature is a kit bash of a regular Gal Vorbak and the Age of Sigmar model of Skarr Bloodwrath. I wanted to give him a slightly more chunky look, since he is the chosen of the chosen brethren. Though it is nowhere said explicitly, but I see the Dark Martyrs more on their way to deamonhood rather than still being a space marine. Thus it was only natural to go for a more deamonic look… A few bit and pieces and he looked like this already. After painting him up and a trip to my newly acquired photo box he looks like ...

Goûrz the ambitious

The “Hobbit Tabletop Liga (HTL)” is the german answer to the “Great British Hobbit League (GBHL)“. And it’s going pretty strong these days. There are already lots of tournaments and events planed for the next year. The last couple of months I was only a spectator of that Facebook group but when they announced a tournament addressed at beginners I knew I had to risk a try. The 24 available slots were full in just a couple of hours and I was only able to get one of the highly sought after starting positions after some other guy canceled. I never played on a tournament like that before just with my Aleator pals. So ...

Van Damneg the Dread King

Deep within the halls of the Twisted Spire, the ruined pyramid tomb and palace of Van Damneg the Dread King, sits the immobile corpse of this evil Liche Lord. The Dread King was one of Nagash’s original followers and fought for him in the Kingdoms of the Dead. He has studied necromancy for thousands of years, and like Nagash he has continued his existence beyond the death of his mortal shell. When you enter his vaulted throne room, the dim pale flicker of ghostlights is the only illumination. In the dark mists at the far end of the hall looms a tall shadow. Wrought from ancient gold and encrusted with the skulls of longextinct creatures is the throne ...

Obey!

I am certainly not a great scratch builder like my club mate Rekrom. Have you seen his Dimachaeron yet? But one has to start somewhere, no? And this here is my start, my first scratch built miniature for the hobby. Of course it is possibly the most easy to start with, yet I am quite satisfied the way it finally turned out to look like. Maybe the next scratches are a bit more ambitious, hehe. And I have to mention that this idea is everything but new. I’ve seen it in a late 90ies White Dwarf if I remember correctly. Our readers almost pointed out what my new Kill Team is all about ...

Mechanicum 32mm Bases

With the new base size and a growing number of models that are delivered with that 32mm bases, there is need for a new set of home-made resin bases. Like I did before with the resin bases for my Castellax and (yet to paint) Vorax class battle automata, I this time created 32mm bases for both my Mechanicum force and a new castle in the sky. The process of making them was again more or less simple: I used lots of bits I had flying around as well as some plastic card parts, some Milliput, some Vallejo structure putty and a bit of green stuff. After casting the mould and casting loads of copies, I had a nice pile ...

Virul’anius

I really think one can have enough Heralds for your Chaos Daemons. Not only for the “Daemonic Possession” on the Warp Storm table but in general. I can’t take credit for the little conversion at all. I’ve seen Dr. Festus getting a new Plaguebearer head in a White Dwarf some issues ago. So I copied the idea as I really liked it (with another head though). The paint job has to be the most gory and vile I ever did in more than twenty years of miniature painting. I love it, haha. His poor victim is of course a soldier from Argos. The Great Unclean One ...

Mechanicum Bases

My current Mechanicum project is literally based on the city scape bases by GW. Unfortunately they only have sizes for 25mm and 40mm round bases, so I had to make my own bases for the 60mm sized bases. As you can surely guess these bigger sized bases are planned for the next step in size: Castellax Battle Automata. But here we go: First I had to create 5 different base layouts (because I currently got 5 Castellax). By the way I made good experiences with gluing the cage on to a sheet of plastic cart, using wood glue. This prevents the silicone from squeezing out at the bottom. After letting the mould rest for a night I separated the originals from the ...
