Playtesting the Heralds of Ruin

We continued with our long-lasting tradition and had a little Kill Team tournament recently. To spice things up we gave the Heralds of Ruin rules a shot. Now after the three matches I had, all I can say is that the rules are very cool and pretty thought-out. I especially have to point out the huge variety of available team lists and the even bigger amount of possible builds with these lists. It’s safe to say that we’re about the switch on a permanent basis. We just found two little flaws which we would like to change in our games. The break tests are a bit to harsh. They used to decide the matches’ results way ...

Enslavement of a race

Today I would like to introduce my new Kill Team: The Zoats. Not much is known these days about this xenos race. I focused on the part of their lore regarding their supposed enslavement by the Tyranids. The question now is, how the Tyranids would be able to do so. Thus I came up with a whole new-made up unit, the Cephalotrophs. The Cephalotrophs are a small, floating breed of Tyranids who have quite a fragile body which mainly is a gland plus a little tail. While on the hunt their chitin scale is used to protect them but as soon as they find a possible host they try to hug them from behind. Flesh hooks are fired ...

Heralds of Fenris

The Heralds of Fenris, or the Wolves of Ruin. Anyway, this post is about my Space Wolves Kill team for our first Heralds of Ruin test match. We have a long tradition of playing Kill Team tournaments in our gaming club and this time we would like to test these new rules. All I can say so far is that they look very promising. The individual team lists alone are nothing but great! The Vlka Fenryka team which I had in mind consists of seven furious Blood Claws which need to be guided by three older Wolves of the Fang. It’s very cool that you are able to have much more variety in your team than ...

Honour thy Legion

As before the idea of the rivaling Legions is still omnipresent here even though they might all be on the Warmaster’s side. Having their martial background in mind it is more than possible to imagine that the Legions might have been up to challenges and duels between each other. Sometimes even in a very brutal way if one does consider the sanguis extremis rule of the World Eaters for example. So a Kill Team match between Flattervieh’s World Eaters and my Sons of Horus always seems like a good idea. But this time we had a special guest invited over for the very first time. As you our readers might have noticed Felix (or in some boards known ...

Kill Team Tournament I / 2015

Way to much time passed since our last Kill Team event in 2014. Unfortunately only four club members could make it and were brave enough to resist this summer’s day heat. Nevertheless we had some really entertaining matches. Cheers to my three club mates for the three great matches! It was a pleasure again as they all came with new Teams which I had never the joy of playing against before. I won’t put any further work into my Enslaver Kill Team as they are a Kill Team only project. And fun to play they were indeed. I had lots and lots of warp power dice to roll and all of them were immune to ...

Enslavers Kill Team

The idea for a new and pretty anomalous Kill Team popped up not so long ago. Therefore I had to hurry a bit to get all the miniatures ready for our Aleator Kill Team Event. Fortunately the last Enslaver got finished yesterday and I am ready to head to Flattervieh’s place in a couple of hours. Will try to take some pictures! This is by the way what I will field (from Codex: Tyranids): Troops: Termagant Brood 2x Devourer Elites: Zoathrope Brood 2x additional Zoanthropes ...

Drooling Slaves

The enslaved Guardsmen form a classic ten soldiers strong unit. As they are going as Termagants, it was not so very easy to bring a bit variation to the table. But one does indeed need special weapons and a leader for a typical Guardsmen squad thus I had to come up with two ideas. The special weapons are actually Devourers as they have the same stats like the regular guns / spike rifles but have assault 3 instead. I think those imperial gatling guns make very good special weapons for a feudal world. The squad leader became a specialist. As you might know, you have to nominate a leader for your Kill Team and 3 specialists. ...

Additional Brainpower

Initially I had no idea how I could set the leader of the Enslaver Kill Team of the other xenos-walnut-creatures. I digged through every bits box I have, especially watching out for Tyranid stuff but with no success. Finally I gave up and just sculpted an additional cortex around the centerline of his brain. Also I was quite unsure what kind of mission objective markers my team could use. As you might know, we have the house rule that every team has to bring three individual mission objective markers to the table. Keeping this tradition the missions with six objective markers are nice to play. The regular ammo boxes and whatnot really did not seem appropriate. So I ...

Count as WHAT?!

Before the topic gets me started, please keep in mind that the whole “count as issue” is a really subjective matter. The single most important factor is that you and your opponent is cool with what you’re doing and what not. Don’t let someone from the internet steal your fun! Phew, this had to be said as I can be as stiff as a poker regarding some count as ideas. “Oh really, your Melter is a Plasma Gun today? No way!” Also I’ve noticed quite often that some gamers use the count as idea as a lame excuse because they like this or that model better. “I like the rules of this gun better but also prefer the ...

Obey!

I am certainly not a great scratch builder like my club mate Rekrom. Have you seen his Dimachaeron yet? But one has to start somewhere, no? And this here is my start, my first scratch built miniature for the hobby. Of course it is possibly the most easy to start with, yet I am quite satisfied the way it finally turned out to look like. Maybe the next scratches are a bit more ambitious, hehe. And I have to mention that this idea is everything but new. I’ve seen it in a late 90ies White Dwarf if I remember correctly. Our readers almost pointed out what my new Kill Team is all about ...
