Growing a forest

Another batch of terrain for my new LotR board was just finished. I am going to come up with a bunch of other pieces soon and then the first match on the board is ready to go. The journey will then be over which isn’t a bad thing at all as I already have another terrain project in mind. ...

Remains

After the recent tournament my plans regarding my LotR/Hobbit projects changed quite a bit. I definitely need an own board to practice for the next tournament that I’m going to visit. That’ll most likely be the german championship (with 100 participants) coming summer. Which means I have to keep on working on my terrain and speed things up a bit. The other thing I have to take care of is that I need a good force aswell. I’ll have to try out some things here and there but I have to keep an eye on this as summer will be approaching faster than I would like. Well if you look at it from the point of ...

Where the roots are long

Of course this is not supposed to be Fangorn, yet the roots of Parth Galen are long aswell. I wanted to come up with a tree for my WIP-Parth-Galen-board next. As this is supposed to be a light woods area I thought it would be a good idea to put each tree on an own base. The bases could later on in the actual game be considered as difficult terrain. Regarding the tutorial for this tree I can only give the advice to check out TheTerrainTutor on YouTube again. That’s all you need and I just added some flock to the lichen as a last step. I am quite happy with the ...

Parth Galen

Maybe you can remember the Westfold board Flattervieh and me came up with a couple of weeks ago. I still like it pretty much but the problem is that it belongs to Flattervieh thus staying most of the time at his place. Since I would like to be able to offer a nice board aswell when guests are visiting me I was motivated enough to come up with something new again. I really like the Citadel Realm of Battle board. Especially after Flattervieh and me tuned it a bit the last time. Yet I wanted to try something different now. The setting should be the woods around Amon Sul, the epic place of Boromir’s last fight ...

He who controls the Promethium…

…controls the Universe. Or was it maybe Spice? Anyway, I finished my Promethium Relay Pipes. They were an essential purchase as I’ve always wanted my desert themed board to have a background of a Promethium rich Imperial World. Of course the board also has the job to be the home of the Orks but that’s another story. I especially had Kill Team matches in mind when I bought the pipes for the Imperial desert theme. They are a great way to get cover for infantry miniatures. The actual rules of the relay pipes will be mostly ignored I think. ...

Shaman’s Den

The Warriors can feel the magical power in the room, but the poor light of the lantern is not enough to show what might lurk within. Crumbling sandstone steps lead up into the darkness. Here we go again. The last room for the Lair of the Orc Lord expansion is ready for the heroes. This time I was unfortunately forced to leave out some of the minor details which was not an easy step to take. One has to keep in mind that the rooms are still supposed to be played on and even now the room is full enough to make it difficult to place miniatures on every field at ...

His Necessary Rest

And mægen deorost Bealo… An evil death has set forth the noble warrior A song shall sing sorrowing minstrels in Meduseld that he is no more, That he is nowhere anymore, for his necessary rest. And that he is the dearest kinsman. Killing took him… The eloquence of Tolkien’s works has always been very fascinating for me, thus I enjoy to share some examples of Tolkien related writings in the Blog posts in case they seem appropriate. I bet you can all remember the mourning song of Éowyn which she sang during Théodred’s burial ...

Grimslade

Not much is known about the town Grimslade. Tolkien just mentioned that it is Grimbold’s hometown, not much more. As I am planing to build my Rohirim around the character Grimbold, it just seemed natural to come up with my own interpretation of this town. We have seen Edoras in the movies and since you can’t really refer to it as a huge city by any means Grimslade had to appear even more rural and simple. That’s were the Stronghold Saga Terrain comes in. Their Dark Age Terrain blends in quite nice with the LotR miniatures and is highly recommended. Today’s post is certainly not the finale regarding Grimslade. There’ll come more terrain for ...

The Westfold

The Westfold was the western part of Rohan, close to the White Mountains and lying between the river Isen and the Folde. The North-South Road ran through the Westfold from the Fords of Isen to Edoras. Its strongpoint was Helm’s Deep. – J.R.R. Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien (ed.), Unfinished Tales, “The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age” Finishing this gaming board was quite a task actually, as it was meant to be a club project. But working on it together proofed to be more difficult than expected. It’s always hard to find an appointed day and if so most of us prefered to roll the dice instead. So my regards go out to ...
