The Spore-Cave

At that time the champions came upon a strange cave, lit from within by grotesque fungi that threw out a flickering emerald glare. Bestial shadows twisted and capered around the grotto’s walls, dark silhouettes of the vile monsters that stamped and chanted at the cavern’s heart. As the champions entered that glowing cave the toadstools gave a horrid shudder and began to utter muffled screams, spewing out clouds of drifting spores that soon filled the air with foulness. So warned, the beast cult that shrieked and cavorted within the cavern took up their blades, while their towering leader clutched at the ensorcelled amulet fragment that hung about his neck. The beasts’ screeches of devotion became sounds of anger ...

Bounce!

Today I’m able to present a new Event Card for my ever growing WHQ project. This time it’s four Squig Hoppaz. They are not included as a printed card within the Lair of the Orc Lord Expansion, but on page 25 you can find the quite entertaining rules for them. My own card will have 1+1D3 Squig Hoppaz and feature the rules as described in the rule book inlcuding that fitting Bounce! rule. ...

Sulphur Sparks

Working again on the denizens of the Silver Tower. I started small with the Brimstone Horrors this time. I was wracking my brain how to paint them though. Of course the regular flames scheme seemed nice but I wanted flames to be the one connecting key element of all my Tzeentch related miniatures. So red wouldn’t have worked with the pink horrors thus I was in need for an alternate colour scheme. Brimstone – Sulphur – Yellow – et voilà! I think this will be a good colour contrast for all other miniatures. Pretty satisfied with the result right now and keen to test it on other miniatures aswell. ...

Boing!

While the WHQ expansion The Lair of the Orc Lord is finished since some time there are still at least two event cards which I would like to add to my card deck covering events related to any greenskins. That would be one card for a bunch of Nasty Skulkers and one for Squig Hoppers. Both are way too cool to leave them out even if their rules are not covered by the WHQ Roleplay book. I’ll have to come up with something on my own then. I started with the Squig Hoppers and finished the first half yesterday. That would be 1 + 1D3 on the Event Card later then. ...

Tzaangor reloaded

After some days I wasn’t so very happy with the first Tzaangor’s paintjob anymore. So I dropped the whole Silver Tower stuff and continued on other projects. A few days ago I came up with another idea for an alternate colour scheme and tested it immediately. I think I like the new “Chaos Chicken” version much more. If that’s still consent after some time has passed I might paint the rest of the Beastmen in that scheme. ...

Call from the Silver Tower

As Warhammer Quest has been an important part of this Blog from its very beginning, it comes as no surprise that the recently released new box game by Games Workshop would have an impact on my hobby in one way or another. I am still no fan of the C3POs on steroids and the likes but I really see no point in hating on the whole Age of Sigmar thing. There are hobbyists who enjoy it pretty much so it’s cool and great for them. As a matter of fact I think every now and then you can find cool stuff among the recent Warhammer releases. What bothers me most is that much of the new stuff is ...

Van Damneg the Dread King

Deep within the halls of the Twisted Spire, the ruined pyramid tomb and palace of Van Damneg the Dread King, sits the immobile corpse of this evil Liche Lord. The Dread King was one of Nagash’s original followers and fought for him in the Kingdoms of the Dead. He has studied necromancy for thousands of years, and like Nagash he has continued his existence beyond the death of his mortal shell. When you enter his vaulted throne room, the dim pale flicker of ghostlights is the only illumination. In the dark mists at the far end of the hall looms a tall shadow. Wrought from ancient gold and encrusted with the skulls of longextinct creatures is the throne ...

Raise the Dead

This is the first Undead to walk the Dungeons of the Old World that I have painted thus far. Quite an outrage if you keep in mind that I painted 134 miniatures exclusively for the Warhammer Quest project log since the start. One could think that I am not a fan of skeletons and the likes but nothing could be more far away from truth to be honest. Actually the Undead were my first bad guys Warhammer army and my prefered enemies at Hero Quest as a young lad. So I can’t put a finger on why there were no miniatures sneaking in here and there before. Anyway here’s the start – a staggering Zombie. It’s always fun ...
