Last Goblin of the Lair

Here comes the last Goblin Wolf Rider for the Warhammer Quest expansion Lair of the Orc Lord, quite a journey up to this point. It was the third of December in 2011 on a dark winter’s eve when I decided to start with my Warhammer Quest project. It took me some time to finish each room and monster of the basic box set. In fact it took me until February the 10th in 2014. My main work then went into the first expansion featuring the greenskins of the Old World. Today I am proud to announce that I am through with the work. So what’s next you might ask? I am certainly not ...

The Breed of Zharr-Naggrund

Black Orcs are certainly one of the worst things that could happen to a bunch of Heroes. Just look at their impressive profile! Also their background as an evil breed of the Dawi Zarr is pretty cool and much in the vein of Tolkien. I imagine my six Black Orcs to be no real part of Gorgut’s Black Fang Orcs but as a group of very expansive mercenaries which were hired by Gorgut. This was by the way the next to last event card before I am through with the expansion “Lair of the Orc Lord” – yay! ...

Monster-upgrade

The End Times are over, the world as we know it is no more and the gates of the realm Ghur are opening to unleash…haha, sorry. Just kidding. Everything here is still like it used to be. The new Troll I’d like to present today is in fact still living in the caves of the Black Mountains between the Empire and the Border Princes. And according to me he will do so happy ever after. Oh, unless there are some mean Heroes disturbing the peaceful life of family Troll of course. As you can see square bases are still state of the art here aswell. Well, I played a lot of WHQ during the last couple of ...

Shaman’s Den

The Warriors can feel the magical power in the room, but the poor light of the lantern is not enough to show what might lurk within. Crumbling sandstone steps lead up into the darkness. Here we go again. The last room for the Lair of the Orc Lord expansion is ready for the heroes. This time I was unfortunately forced to leave out some of the minor details which was not an easy step to take. One has to keep in mind that the rooms are still supposed to be played on and even now the room is full enough to make it difficult to place miniatures on every field at ...

Orcish Elite

Black Orcs are the biggest and strongest of all Orcs, and get their name from their dour, grim demeanour as much as from the colour of their skin, which is extremely dark green or black. They take war much more seriously than other Orcs and have the best equipment. Many of their fearsome weapons are captured in battle, and carried as a mark of their self-evident superiority, while others are paid in tribute by subjugated tribes. The Orcish Elite, the Black Orcs, are the newest addition to my dungeon. They are one of the last things that needs to be fixed to complete the Lair of the Orc Lord. It was ...

Quirrik – Clan Skryre Warlock

That’s quite an atypical update today as I usually work on my more or less strict schedule for my WHQ project log: – Warhammer Quest box (finished) – Lair of the Orc Lord (almost finished) – Catacombs of Terror (next big thing) – The rest with WD expansions and own ideas. After reading much about the Skaven during the last couple of days I guess the Rat Golem was just not enough. I was in the mood to paint some more for the Domain of the Horned Rat expansion. Thus I searched for a fitting miniature for the Skryre Warlock Quirrik. The Island of Blood Warlock was just what I was looking for. ...

The Rat Golem

When I stumbled upon the WHQ expansion “Domain of the Horned Rat” from the english White Dwarf #195 I knew that I had to include it in my WHQ project log. There’s a unique new dungeon room, the Warlock Quirrik, the Assassin Shreek Deathstrike and lots of neat Skaven stuff. Especially the Rat Golem, Quirrik’s creation, caught my attention. The Rat Golem is a prototype of a new Skaven creature. It is a mechanically modified Rat Ogre, with chunks of warpstone embedded in parts of its body to provide it with a resistance to magic and the ability to heal itself. However, it is even more stupid than normal Rat Ogres, and frequently needs repairing. It needs ...

Gorgut – Warboss of the Black Fang Orcs

It had begun on the icy steppes of Kislev, when the ageing seer had cast the bones onto the dying embers of the fire. The call had gone forth across the Old World for Warriors strong and brave to undertake a most terrible quest. The risks were great, but the potential rewards would be unimaginable. Many famous Warrior bands took up the challenge, and a great throng gathered to hear the prophecy at the appointed time and place. An expectant hush fell over the crowd. The biting wind whistled through the bare, black trees, the only sound save the crackling and spitting of the last few chunks of wood on the fire. After many minutes, the seer threw ...

Clash, crash! Crush, smash!

Clash, crash! Crush, smash! Hammer and tongs! Knocker and gongs! Pound, pound, down underground! The short excerpt from the “Down in Goblin Town” song from The Hobbit seemed quite appropriate when I finished the last four remaining Night Goblins of the Lair of the Orc Lord expansion for Warhammer Quest. Those sneaky and mean little Greenskins are a perfect example for the way the Night Goblins prefer to fight. Wrap them in a net and when they can’t move beat them with a club so long that they won’t ever move again – not a subtle but effective strategy! Will be fun to see how the Heroes can handle them. Sometimes even the ...
