Characters of the XVIth Legion

The recently finished Sons of Horus Terminators gave me the motivation to work a bit more on the XVIth Legion. For the last missions of the Betrayal at Calth board game I am in need of yet another Legion Veteran Sergeant. So I sat down and came up with a miniature made from no less than 7 different GW / FW kits. While chosing a name for the new Sergeant (a tradition I kept from the very beginning of this project) I thought that it would be a good idea to look back on all the named characters I painted for the Sons of Horus so far. ...

Sons of Horus Cataphractii squad

While visiting the local GW some days ago I noticed a test match of the new Shadespire game. Suddenly it came to my mind (looking at the hex-fields on the board) that I really would like to go on with Flattevieh’s and my own little campaign playing the Betrayal at Calth or better said Betrayal at Isstvan III board game. For the next mission there were only two Terminators lacking paint which stood around here readily assembled for quite some time now. So I didn’t hesitate and painted both of them. Hopefully Flattervieh’s World Eater Terminators won’t take long for him to finish. ...

Cthonian Colossus

The most recent addition for my Sons of Horus is my very own version of Captain Steloc Aethon of the Betrayal at Calth board game. As he will be on the loyalist side when I am playing Betrayal at Calth / Isstvan III I imagine him to be one of the very last comrades of Garviel Loken. He shall henceforth be known as Centurion Xalus Seraddon, one of the last Luna Wolves. Although I might very well use him in regular games as a traitor on the Warmaster’s side. ...

Horus Heresy Kill Team Event 2016 – Battle Report

Once again we met in Fledermaus’ holy halls of figurines (a.k.a. “ze Püppchen-Imperium”) for a Kill Team Event. This time we did play with slightly larger teams of 300p each in the times of heresy. In the end there were five different player and kill teams present. World Eaters – by Fledermaus 20 tactical marines including a sergeant with power sword. Word Bearers Gal Vorbak – by Broncofish 7 Gal Vorbak with a Dark Matyr in Artificer Armour with Power Axe. One of the Gal Vorbak carried a Plasma Gun.   Sons of Horus Reaver Attack Squad – by Goatmörser 7 Reavers with Jump Pack and a variety of Power Weapons. Nightlords – by Kjeld 5 Terror Squad, one with flamer and 5 Night Raptors, with a nostroman ...

Reaver Attack Squad

Now that our Horus Heresy Kill Team event will be upon us soon I finished my Sons of Horus Reaver Attack Squad. We agreed on 300 instead of 200 points thus giving me the chance to give the unit proper equipment. I am really eager to see these Marines’ performance. ...

Kharn vs. Loken

In this Battle Report we tried to mirror one of the most crucial events at the beginning of the Horus Heresy on Isstvan III, the battle between Kharn and Garviel Loken. Of course the novel “Galaxy in Flames” by Ben Counter had a huge impact on us. Therefore you’ll get to read an excerpt from it now: ‘Kharn!’ said Loken as the warrior attacked. Kharn paused in his attack and, for the briefest moment, Loken saw the noble warrior he had spoken with in the Museum of Conquest, before something else swamped it again – something that twisted Kharn’s face with hatred. That second was enough for Loken, allowing him to dodge back behind a fan of ...

Heavy Bolter Fire

Regarding my Sons of Horus I am right now busy with my Reaver Attack Squad yet I am still keeping an eye on the Betrayal at Calth missions I would like to play as soon as possible. While Heavy Bolters tend to be not so exciting in regular matches (especially when everybody wears at least a power armour) they are really great in the Betrayal at Calth game. That’s why I had to come up with a little upgrade for my Legion Veteran Squad. ...

Sea green Behemoths

The Terminator Sergeant Raban Sarr of the 31st company of the Sons of Horus and a comrade in arms got finished and are ready now for the upcoming Betrayal at Calth / Isstvan III matches. At least this is what I thought until I saw the pictures of the recent Horus Heresy Weekender. The plastic Cataphractii Pattern Terminators will get some shoulder pad upgrades and the Sons of Horus are among the first Legions to receive this nice treatment. Well … they don’t look to different from the ones I casted from my Justaerin shoulders. But it’s a little bit in the vein of Malibu Stacy’s new hat. I WANT IT! So I am going to ...

Catulan Reavers

The Catulan Reaver Squad is growing and only three Marines are missing until I have 300 points completed. At first I was relying on the resin MK IV jump packs from Forge World. Fortunately I got the advise from my club mate Elrond that I could go with the plastic MK IV jump packs from Games Workshops’ Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard aswell. That’s quite a good idea as I was still missing two jump packs for the next bunch of three Marines. ...
