Companies of Battle

I am super excited regarding the upcoming release of the Middle-Earth Battle Companies book! Of course I preordered a copy and will go and fetch it next saturday. What an awesome excuse to start new projects, get them painted fast and even play with them shortly after the project’s start. Another great thing is that most LotR-Players will immediately have enough painted miniatures to start a game or two. But of course I wanted something new for this setting aswell. My first pick were the Dwarves of the Iron Hills. Naturally other projects are lurking already right after them. ...

White Hand’s Might

For a 500 points list which I am about to field soon I was in need for 5 additional Uruk-Hai. Now that my forces of Isengard have already reached quite a strong size I thought a banner would suit them well. Actually they might be not enough to storm Helm’s Deep but on one of the pictures I placed all Isengard stuff I have painted this far. That’s already 670 points which isn’t that bad at all. But I’m not finished yet. Certain adds will be done for sure. Like a Shaman or some other nifty things. ...

Concerning Uruk-Hai & Dragons

The recently painted Uruk-Hai Captain was the last step to complete my 300 points Isengard list: 1x Uruk-Hai Captain with heavy armour & shield 3x Uruk-Hai Warrior with shield 2x Uruk-Hai Warrior with crossbow 2x Uruk-Hai Warrior with pike 2x Uruk-Hai Berserker 1x Uruk-Hai Captain with heavy armour & shield 2x Uruk-Hai Warrior with shield 2x Uruk-Hai Warrior with crossbow 2x Uruk-Hai Warrior with pike 1x Uruk-Hai Berserker 299 points / 18 models Slowly the forces of Isengard are reaching the points value of a regular LotR-match. But there came in a huge distraction regarding my LotR/Hobbit projects: Behold Smaug the Terrible! Yet I have to admit that this is by far the most intimidating (and ...

In Memoriam

Saruman was not planed for my yet small Uruk-Hai strike force in the near future. The passing of Sir Christopher Lee made me change my plans and I had to paint Saruman as a tribute to one of the greatest actors ever. ...

The Battle for Grimslade

This small battle with 200 points for each side took place during a LotR/Hobbit event day we had a couple of days ago. Both Flattervieh and me were looking forward to field our freshly painted yet small forces. We didn’t roll on the table but went for the “The High Ground” scenario instead as I wanted to see my burial mound in action. Also it was just a perfect setting for the invading Uruk-Hai. Grimbold was certainly upset when he heard of Orcs roaming through the lands of his people, desecrating the graves of his forebears. Yay, great game & cheers Flattervieh! At first it really didn’t look so very good for ...

Curse of the freshly painted miniatures

For the first step of our ongoing LotR/Hobbit-Aleator-league one does need a 100 points list. We had a couple of games going on last weekend and my scouts had their first time on the gaming table. To get more variation to the team I added three metal scouts which were a joy to paint as they are sculpted really well. Of course my first enemies were Flattervieh’s men of Rohan on our Westfold board. The performance of my scouts went very well but unfortunately the dice were not with them that day and the three new Uruk-Hai were the first casualties. It was a great match though and of course there’ll soon be a rematch ...

Ready to conquer!

The 200 points list is ready for combat: 1x Uruk-Hai Captain – Heavy Armour & Shield 5x Uruk-Hai Warrior – Shield 4x Uruk-Hai Warrior – Crossbow 3x Uruk-Hai Berserker I am really curious to see how they will stand the test of battle, especially the Berserkers. After the completion of this project log’s step I will definitely go and paint something else during the next couple of painting sessions. Maybe something with a Bolter in its fist or maybe more dungeon related goodness? We’ll see…at least I made sure that there’s some more LotR stuff from Isengard around if the mood is kicking in again. The Isengard Troll is tempting or maybe I’ll go for the ...

Saruman’s eyes & ears

In for a penny, in for a pound. It definately is a good idea to have a good aswell as an evil army for the Lord of the Rings. Especially as Goatmoerser and me would like to visit a tournament one day where it usually is a good practice to bring two fractions with. My Dwaves have almost reached an appropriate size for standard games. I’m going to add a couple of miniatures (Gimli, Daín Ironfoot and some Iron Guards) to be able to try different army builds. Therefore the time was just about right to waste some thoughts on an evil army. Isengard has always been tempting for me. ...

Urgûz

Heroes are an integral part of the Lord of the Rings game. Thus I am glad to present the Captain of the Uruk-Hai today. He’s an ambitious Uruk from the pits of Isengard, eager to prove himself in battle. He will lead my 200 Points “Fallen Realms” list to battle. The pike wearing Uruks are on hold for now. I think they’ll be in the 300 points list again. ...
