Combined Forces of the IVth Argos

From the desert sand of the Planet Argos four titan hive cities rose towards the sky while drilling themselves deep into the planet’s crust. Huge stocks of promethium supplied the population with wealth and riches. Of course the Departmento Munitorum had to get their share and the Planet Argos mustered their first men for the Imperial Guard. This is the combined force of the IVth Regiment and the Armoured IVth Regiment of Argos.
The plain wasteland of Argos brought forth proud women and men. They are known to be explorers and travellers, loyal towards the emperor and his realm. The constant warfare of the orcish threat in this solar system made them tough and grim fighters. Due to the importance of the planet’s resources the Adeptus Mechanicus supplied them with wargear in return for the black gold. But the men of Argos had to fight their wars on their own, even though they got much support. Since the colonisation of Argos is rather young, around one thousand years to be precise, they lacked a military tradition such as other well-known regiments carry for thousands of years. Thus they got heavily influenced by the Fortress World Cadia and added their own cultural touch to it.
A few examples should be named such as the Lacaerta Rough Riders who have to hunt their own riding beasts as the ones bred in captivity are said to lack the fury of those of the wilderness. Also the ranking is mostly given out by deed and fame. The sergeants have to prove themselves in battle each time to constitute their rank and it is hard to imagine wearing a helmet for them. The most keen have been witnessed to enter battle wearing no armour at all, showing their enemy a bare chest. Also the strong ties between the Armoured and the regular Regiments should be pointed out as something special.

  1. If possible, I’d really love to know the recipe for this paint scheme. I’d like to experiment with it for my Mechanicus.

    • Hey Landon, the recipe for my Guard’s colour scheme was and still is very simple. It dates back to the time when the glorious “Devlan Mud” was introduced to us and I was a fan of more easy / fast to paint schemes. The cloth got a basic layer of Vomit Brown (never found a suitable replacement for this colour unfortunately). Then a heavy wash of Devlan Mud (now Armypainter’s Strong Tone Ink) followed. After that I cleaned some spots that did not look good after drying with Vomit Brown again and was already done. The armour / tanks got a base coat of Adeptus Battlegrey (Mechanicus Standard Grey is a good replacement). A wash of Badab Black (now Army Painter’s Dark Tone Ink) followed. Again I cleaned some spots carefully with Adeptus Battlegrey again. Then followed a light drybrushing with Codex Grey (nowadays Dawnstone) for the highlights – finished! Oh and I always used white spray primer from GW. Please don’t hesitate to ask again if you got another question and good luck with your Adeptus Mechanicus.
